While all of us today celebrate the increasing number of sports stars in India who are achieving international fame and success, we often know little about those who act behind the scenes, coaching and enabling them to greater heights.
Our blog for today aims to change that a little bit. We have featured today Partha Varanashi, or as he is better known, Coach Partha. While being best known as a coach for World Championship swimmers, Partha also dons many other hats. His parents in 1991 founded Varanashi Organic Farms and pioneered sustainable and environmentally friendly farming in Karnataka, as their life’s mission. Today, along with being a poly athlete who does surfing & swimming, Partha is taking forward his family legacy of sustainable farming to greater heights of renown, not least via his own online presence as a digital creator in the wellness domain in India.
For Partha, sustainable yet productive is a way of life, and he follows this via a very rigorous daily routine which focuses on his training & coaching, his all round fitness, and his multiple roles as business owner, coach to top athletes, sustainability entrepreneur, and digital creator. Focus and readiness are key for him to be at his best always. Partha had recently tried out our new smart ring, the LunaRing, and he was delighted with how it helped his efforts to maintain his multi-faceted lifestyle and routine.
“It’s an easy to wear device, compared to any watch which you don’t want to be wearing all the time, and I felt it captures more data than my smartwatch”. He felt that it was a unique and innovative device, one which has a really small form factor, and fits into his daily lifestyle & routine while also capturing a lot of information.
On the readiness score, he went it was captured & calculated very well, especially the heart rate during sleep and the amount of oxygen in the body, as well as deep & shallow breathing. The capturing of the stress levels and heart rate variability. “Basically this smart ring tells you whether you’re ready or not for the next day pretty well!” is how he summarizes.
Some of the ways in which he felt it impacted his routine was strongest in the area of sleep, whereas he said “this device basically gamifies sleep & recovery, motivates you to sleep a little bit early. You want to get that 7-8 hours of sleep, and have your dinner early!” He tried various experiments with his routine, all the while monitoring himself on the LunaRing. “I tried having dinner late, then I find my sleep score is disturbed. If I have dinner by 6 and sleep by 9 or 10, I get a great score!”
He is looking forward to try the ring for more activities, such as swimming, and to further explore the activity scores feature. So far, he has been having a great time focusing on sleep, HRV, stress management, and blood oxygen monitoring, and he found it a great enabler of iterating on his daily routine and becoming better at those metrics.
